Northern Water aims to provide a secure, climate resilient water source for industry located in South Australia's Upper Spencer Gulf and Far North. This will enable the growth of industries and key mining resources crucial for contributing to decarbonisation initiatives, sustainability and unlocking long term economic prosperity for South Australia.
The Project

Northern Water aims to provide a secure, climate resilient water source for industry located in South Australia’s Upper Spencer Gulf and Far North. This will enable the growth of industries and key mining resources crucial for contributing to decarbonisation initiatives, sustainability and unlocking long term economic prosperity for South Australia.

The delivery of Northern Water will involve the construction and operation of a large-scale desalination plant at Mullaquana Station in the Upper Spencer Gulf and connection to the Far North via approximately 400 km of transfer pipeline.

Akera’s Engagement

Akera’s engagement commenced in 2022 with responsibilities including:

  • Project Management & Integration – project definition, planning and coordinating activities across project workstreams, funding and assurance milestones
  • PMO – scope, cost, schedule and risk planning, management, reporting and governance
  • Procurement Management – scoping and procuring various specialist expertise, including site investigations (LIDAR, geophysics, onshore and offshore Geotech etc)
  • Third Party Interface Management – including engagement with Department of Defence, SA Water, ARTC, Santos and various other interfacing infrastructure asset owners and developers
  • Power Network Connection – to plan the power infrastructure for desalination and pipeline pump station operations
  • Power Procurement Strategy – to plan procurement of power for operation of the project
